3.0 litre auto ABS/TC lights come on speedo goes off, after a couple of minutes all return to normal for a few miles. No faults in memory any ideas?

Hi Barry and welcome to the forum :)

Its a classic symptom of a failing ABS ECU i'm affraid.

You can buy them second hand for about £35ish or have it reconditioned.

Same symptons ...it gets worse until on all the time. :y
Just changed mine....Do not try to force the large electrical connector off.....there is a clip on the right hand side (looking from front) that needs to be pushed/pulled quite a way towards the nearside wing of the vehicle. (I refer to 2.5ltr Auto in this case, probably others are similar as my new one came from a 3.0ltr and was reprogrammed after fitting)
Its a plastic clip, so go steady. It will pull out about 2".
Mine was pinky coloured. It took us a while to suss the clip :y
Possibly the guide could be updated a bit with a piccy. It mentions a clip, but it was not what we expected when finally we sorted it ;)

If its a 1998 or later car, as others have suggested, ABS ECU is most likely. DIY replacable, but definately 'fiddly'!

Did you take a picture whilst doing it?  Oh, no, of course not, you would hit the wrong button on your camera ;D ;D

I am on my third failed unit now. One secondhand one lasted 50 miles. The good ones around aregetting long in the tooth now, so my recommendation is to go for recon by ECU Testing in Nottingham or BBA Reman. Costs more but guaranteed for two years.
