Tapping noise
« on: 10 April 2011, 16:24:34 »

Guys once again thanks for all of your help on my previous topic in changing the timing belt. I am on with the gerbox service and handbrakes today....Just looking for some advice really, Since I bought the car on Monday there is a tapety noise coming from the engine, i imagine its lazy/sticking valves/lifters...However, is there a way in which I can make this quieter, i.e specific type of oil which is best?? the car is a 2.2i CDX....I note it is quite common for it to be a bit tappety on start up and for approx 45 seconds until it quietens down a bit....Doesn't completely go away but it does get quieter..Again any help/advice/info would be very gratefully received!!

Do a few quick oil changes 500-1000miles, good practice if you've just bought the car anyway and maybe chuck in some wynns lifter treatment :y

Oh and as for which oil GM's very own 10 by 40W will be fine  :y

Semi synthetic is fine and if you get yourself a Trade Card by joining ABS it works out about £40 for 20Ltrs so why use anything else :y

Just stick with Vauxhall Semi Synthetic.

Castrol make grease. Noone I know uses their oil.

Esso and Mobil were recommended years ago.

GM oil is fine for Omegas
