Code 34 on 2.5TD
« on: 06 July 2010, 17:22:55 »

Hi All,

I've paperclipped the car today as I'm having problems with starting, especially when hot. I have ordered plugs and filters to do a service.

The car comes up with code 34 as only faultcode : Injector timing out of range.

How do I fix this? Can I clear the faultcodes out of the system myself?

"Ordered plugs" ....do you mean glow-plugs.
If cold starting is ok then these may not be needed, as it is hot starting problem.

I would check injectors for leaks at the base, leak off pipes again for leaks and give it the good old Diesel Magic treatment in a new fuel filter first, see how it goes.
Apart from above a good service and clean up of the charge air pipes might help.
There is a fix for hot start problems.....can get it off ebay about £30, but it may not be required  ::)

Code 34 is the timing sensor inside the pump the only way to fix it is to replace the injector pump or get it overhauld by a bosch fuel pump specialist :(
you could try as mick says G/P and diesel magic it but I doubt it will work this works when code 64 shows(fuel Quantity out of range).
you could try the 30 faultless starts simply by turning on ignition waiting until managment light goes out turn off and repeat DONT start the engine then paperclip it again.
I have recently replaced my fuel pump and 34&64 were there I also have the hot start problem before and after new pump(re-con) was fitted.
34&64 have gone this has made a big difference in starting and fuel economy I was getting average 18mpg round town now getting 27mpg and cruising on m-way getting 46mpg average

Very interested in this MPG improvement. Mine does not have a hot start problem, but it could certainly do with more mpg. How much was the recon pump? I've only done 105,000.

Re-con pump: You'll be looking at shelling out around 1200 quid - plus the dreaded.
Been there, done that!
 >:(

Fuel consumption: All auto-boxed TDs that I've come across have been real fuel guzzlers.
Might as well have a V6 and enjoy the performance!
 :(

A manual-boxed TD is the only way to go if you want reasonable economy/performance Chris.
I remember you calculating my mpg at Farnborough - 40 mpg after a fair cross-country ragging and heavily-laden too!

Point taken Byron, but I'm an Auto man from way back. Mine is definitely thirstier than it used to be, and I'm using a standard chip at present, an averaging  26.5 on local runs. :'(
