Are you aware the original exhaust is no longer supplied by vx any more sadly.

You may get the correct number, but ime the part will be a mere shadow of it's former self, but still at the original price....?

Try eternal on gaybay, and I suspect the entire cat back section will be needed as the joints rust together.

You probably need to replace the whole lot. It doesnt make sense not to. I tried to replace only the middle left section but it wouldn't come off the backbox so replaced the whole now.  Its cheap to replace the whole section anyway iirc £120 from Eternal which is the favoured here.

Chris, you are probably one of the very few people to have used the new GM exhaust and probably responsible for soiling the rep of the new exhausts. I'm thinking of replacing my pattern POS with the new GM version as there is a further 20% discount off trade price which makes it tempting. Its still costs more than Eternal but I want as much silence as possible and these are slightly quieter than Eternal (from what I've read, but not enough to justify the price) and stainless by their nature are loud so they are out of the question and also there is the price. The GMs will also look a bit better as the tail pipes are the right length. Would you go GM again yourself with the discount? How long is the warranty on those?

Agreed With reference to the above with regards to the eternal exhausts.

I have just replaced my back box with an eternal part and although it's not bad it's as quiet as I had of hoped, but for the price it's not a bad deal to be honest.

As said above to £120 for a whole system is value for money all day long and if it lasts a couple of years your quids in

I had to fit a new backbox to mine a week after I got it; a good blast up the motorway blew all the wadding out of it.

I found a new GM one on Ebayfor £60, so bought it.

I did have to introduce the old box to my angle grinder to get it off, but the new one fitted the aftermarket system perfectly after some concerted hammering to get it on.
The best bit is that it's quiet, and doesn't stick out the bumper at all; I can't stand obvious exhausts, the back of a car looks much better if you can't see the damn thing at all.

Nick, forgive my ignorance. But when you say back box what is that. From what i can hear when you stand at the rear of the car,its the next piece down from the twin pipes on the left hand side.(if that makes any sense)I have been told one of the baffles inside is loose, dont know if thats right. :-/Moggy :y

If you look underneath the car the backbox is the section that has the twin pipe (or outlets) attached to it.

Personally I would not fit a tc exhaust again. It's quieter than the Eternal, and the tail pipes are too short on the eternal also. But the tc exhaust will last no longer and is almost 3 times the price when I got stung for mine.

Believe it's a two year warranty on tc exhausts. After two the entire back box was rusty, including tail pipes. Dispute attempts to paint it to keep the rust at bay.
Much as I like to support trade club, I really can't recommend these exhausts. If they halfed the tc price then yes, but not at £310, just not worth the money that previously they where charging for the genuine article. Now that was a fairer deal. :'(

Here's the old thread in question. Noet the totally different construction of the new parts compared to the old clam shell design, and the totally rusted clamps on the original.

Sounds like you need the centre box. You may well find that this and the back box have "welded" themselves together so you have to replace both. If you can possibly afford to, its best to renew both centre boxes and the back box, as once one part starts to go, the others probably arent going to be far behind it.

Dont know to be honest mate. I cant remember the last time I had someone else fit an exhaust to my car. Eternal will be around £120 for both centre boxes and a back box, but that isnt fitted. You could try your local exhaust centre, but the quality in those type of places often leaves something to be desired.
If your desperate, you could look for secondhand parts from ebay, or a breaker on here who is not far from you. Carriage on an exhuast system will probably be a bit pricey I think.
Whereabouts in the country are you ?

Thanks for replying Chris.

Is it the backbox that determines the loudness or the mid sections. I may just replace the backbox on mine (its been two months so might come off)
