Elite vs MV6 suspension ............
« on: 07 May 2011, 17:57:32 »

What are the differences between Elite & MV6 (saloon) suspension setups please?

I know that the Elite has self levelling rear shocks and I understand the springs are different to accommodate that.

So, if I need to replace the rear shocks and want to dispense with S/L, what would be needed to convert to a MV6 setup? Are the anti-roll bars and drop links any different.

Thanks - Rob

If you're of the DLK persuassion and like your back end to wander all over the place very softly then Elite setup is the way to go.  MV6 handling is much stiffer and thus much better in the corners.  It all depends on you rdriving style as to which would be best for you  :y

Thanks Guffer, but I wanted to know what are the physical differences. I've had both and know what the "outcome" is.

So its comments about the difference in  springs, shock, droplinks, anti-roll bars etc ........

Thanks

Basicly the elite is nice and soft and rolls around abit

The MV6 rides harder with less body roll when you thow it round a corner.
A little bit harsh when going slowly but much better to drive when you pick up the pace  ;) :y

Shocks and springs, that's all afaik. There is a part number anomaly re the centre tie rod between models, but the parts themselves look exactly the same, and would only affect bump steer anyway. Roll bars are the same I believe.

Yours being pre face lift raises the question do you want to go to pre face lift mv6 or face lift mv6 which has lowered sports chassis which is 15mil lower than stock, as I under stand it. I'm not that familiar with pre face mv6, not sure if they are lowered via shocks on stock springs or what...?

IMO go for lsc shocks and springs all round via tc

Or go for Bilstein b4 shocks and look out for irmscher springs (second hand) or new  stienmetz springs are available I believe.

Some say irmscher is a bit stiff, but as always, all things are relative in that if you've ever suffered the ride in a BMW Msport or audi then you'll find the firmest omega set up like riding on silk IMO.

mv6 is certainly firmer than Elite which is way too soft for anything over driving miss daisy, which is fine according to taste of course.

Best mv6 set up would be face lift lowered sports chassis mv6 (IMO) but depends what you want, it's your car so my taste may not suit yours.

Hth somehow. :-/

I can't see how the shock absorber would alter the ride height, it's got to be the springs that are shorter/stiffer.

Are they on stock springs, but different shocks? May not be lowered at all...?

Anyone?

Although shocks do extend on their own, so must have an effect of some sort, however small....
