Auto vs manual
« on: 10 May 2011, 19:30:59 »

Hi, I'm looking to buy another Omega. My last one was a bit of a nightmare due to changing just about every damn sensor on it just to find out that it was the gearbox at fault from the beginning, probably the thrust bearing. which i had mentioned to me but refused to believe. anyway the old bus has gone and i am missing the omega badly. At present i am driving a motorised rollerskate called a vectra. Sorry lads but i'm not impressed. anyway to get to what i need to know is which is less problematic the auto or the manual gearbox. I am a bit wary of the auto after my last experience. maybe it was just one out of a lot that gives grief or is it commonplace.
Would appreciate a bit of advice. :-/ :( :-/ :-/

Auto for me every time, both of mine are. Don't get me wrong I like the control with a manual and they can be great fun but I get so bored at having to press the clutch pedal every time!
Autos are great for motorway cruising especially with cruise control, they may be slightly less economical but if we are talking low 20s anyway you are skint already.  :y

Also great for getting around when you have bust your left ankle (yes, I did check with my doc and insurance).  :y

Plenty of auto and manual zealots on here....if you are asking the question then I'd lean towards manual 'cos I'm a skinflint and they are cheaper to run, on t'other hand I can easily accept an auto' suits the car better, especially for the V6s.

Since I get the feeling you are not that bothered I'd suggest you go for the best car you can find and not worry too much about the pedal count (don't really need the clutch much once you're moving anyway  :) :))

I've always had manuals in the past but I love the auto on mine, suits the car well. There's no right or wrong, it's all down to personal taste  :y

from what speed ?   autobox locks up at 80 km/h.. you need to start above it ;D :D

from a standing start manuals always faster..

OK, personal preference is for an Auto... The Omega manual box isn't the best in terms of throw etc...

Some cars suit an Auto box, some don't... The Omega definitely does :y
