Auto for trundling along on your commute following all the other traffic while only barely awake: Great.
Auto for city driving: Great.
Auto for motorway cruising: Makes no odds.
Auto for towing: Makes no odds.
Auto while "pressing on" on a twisty B road: Just don't bother. ;D

Motorways - traffic jams - autos win hands down, I have had the sore left ankle.

Towing - less stress on the towing equipment and don't have to keep changing gear due to slopes as the car does it

....
My Westfield was a life-saver on the motorway when a Heron decided to land about 50m in front of me in the fast lane of the M4 to eat some rep's discarded sandwich. Had I attempted that quick a lane change in any other car I'd have ended up on my roof. :o .......

But in your Omega you'd have had ABS and had that not been enough then you'd have just ended up with a flat heron ..............  ;) ;)

An Omega driver would have been concentrating to the point of being able to stop in the space available..... :y :y :y

Bull-Crap.

I'd have gunned the throttle and made sure the greedy bird was deaded!  :D

Holed bumper though - had one once from a suicide bird (Pheasant I think)

I wont bother posting YouTube videos because quite frankly, I cant be bothered.... but, if you have a search and a view of a few Omega vids, you'll be able to see comparisons between Auto and Manual acceleration.

I noticed;

The Speedo rises in a quite fluid manner with an Auto, the Manual equivilent stops accelerating at gear-change (very quick gear changes at that).

The three gear changes required in a manual makes a 0-100MPH dash almost a second slower than the equivilent Auto.

A Manual will accelerate to 60MPH from 0 approximately 0.3seconds quicker (due to 'off-the-line' spurt).

These are all comparisons of like for like 2.5 or 3.0 Omega's respectively.

There are loads of vids.  Take a peek, and post your own observations.

NOTE:  All the timing I have observed are my quick (or not so quick) finger on the mouse to determine acceleration times.

I think this will finish the debate who rules ;D :D

Hahahahaha that makes me laugh! As if you listen to anything Parkers say!

Automatics rule!

Well. I'd say the auto wins here. Was i just unlucky with my last auto? I had a hell of a time with it. eventually i got rid and bought a roller skate (motorised of course) I think they called it a vectra. sorry all the vectra heads but not for me, My omega elite was so roomy and you can chuck em around a bit if thats your thing, more so than my senator.
Anyway are the auto's generally pretty reliable? was my last experience just bad luck perhaps. I'm getting too tired and stiff in the joints for too much climbing about under the car now. Cam belts and stuff like that ok but the thought of changing gearboxes etc brings me out in a very wet and cold sweat. What do you reckon. And thanks for all the great opinions so far. I have to say i do lean abit on the auto side. :y :y :y :y
