Strikes me as misdiagnosis to me.

Where precisely is it leaking from?

Back of engine-hbv hose to coolant bridge usually gets frayed on replacing hbv and the pulling to remove and replace the clips eventually leaks :y

It's probably the hbv itself leaking. How much are they £30 or so? Singly THE most common cause of external water leak on the omega. Edit-there are a few others so needs investigation.

Mayo in the filler cap is normal for short journeys. Does the oil on the dip stick look normal? Brown - black or milky coffee colour?

You can buy a good second hand engine with less than 70k on ebay for  £200 might be cheaper in the long run

When my oil cooler went on my v6 the oil filler cap was all gunked up with mayo. This was because the oil sump was filled with coolant. After i changed the oil and drove around for a few days the mayo had magically disappeared.

As for your coolant leak i would guess that it's coming from the coolant bridge. Maybe one of the bolts were threaded when they were put back in or the washers weren't renewed.
Hope it all works out for you.
