Name that LPG kit
« on: 16 May 2011, 13:23:30 »

Can anyone identify what LPG kit I have fitted to my car from this picture?? Unfortunately the sticker has been partially rubbed off (sorry it's upside down  :();

It's clearly an AC Stag 300 ??? Premium? Plus? Bog standard?

I would also very much appreciate if someone could tell me roughly how much this valve should be open on my tank... fully open? 1 turn? 2 turns?

I do need to get the cable to plug into the system and have a look at what it's up to as it's definately not running 100% right. Any info would be gratefully received  :y

Haha yes unfortunately there are several variants of the Stag 300 kit, I should have made that more clear.

The more important question for me is how much to open this valve by, as i'm concerned that i'm either starving or flooding the system... the other concerning thing is that when I had the engine running the other day I completely shut off that valve and expected the car to switch back to petrol, but it kept on running on gas  :o Which I suppose suggests that the valve may be duff  ::)

That's the standard STAG 300 kit. That valve should be fully open, it's just a manual shut off valve as backup. The reason it kept running is because of the fuel already in the lines ;)

Thank you mate :)

What is the difference between the premium and the plus kit? Also, if I wind this valve back will it come to a stop or will it shoot out under pressure and release all of the gas in my tank  :o Because that's what i've been expecting to happen so i've only been opening it 1 to 2 turns! Will that be restricting the delivery of gas?

The ECU has indeed been mounted upside down... I think I may need a new filter as the power's not as good on gas and it doesn't idle fantastically either. I could really do with plugging into it and watching it run, but I don't have the Stag lead.

Should be mounted with the plug at the bottom ;)

If you can get along to the Bucks meet in a couple of weeks I'll we'll happily look it over for you and I'll have my laptop and lead with me ;) ;)

Thank you mate i'll see if I can make it  :)

Is there any reason why it should be mounted with the plug at the bottom? Is it to avoid water ingress into the ecu??

Thanks for your help guys, there's definately something wrong with my lpg kit i've covered a grand total of 74 miles and have burnt off around 23 litres of gas... 14.6 mpg mostly motorway  :'( my trip computer is saying 26mpg average and I reset it this morning!! It's probably cheaper to just run it on petrol at the moment  ::)

Answered your own question there ;)

Yep, I reckon that's probably burning more LPG than it would petrol :o

I assume you've done all the basic checks? And get all over the LPG pipes with the Mk 1 Nose and check for leaks :y :y

I think mine is uber poorly  :(

I've checked for leaks and tightened up all connections and I can't find any problems. I do think it is a fueling/mapping problem as the power & torque are much reduced when running on gas and the idle is quite lumpy especially when the engine's colder.

Should the stag ecu tap into my lambda probes? Or is that controlled by the injection pulses that are sent out by the engine ecu? As the wires for the lambda probes on the stag ecu are not connected... I may have just answered my own question again  :D
