Fuel left?
« on: 27 May 2011, 01:28:06 »

When putting the display onto "range" and the reading reaches zero how far have you gone before the car runs out? (if anyone has actually tried that which i doubt)
Just trying to establish how much fuel is actually left in the tank as either my reading is wrong or the fuel is dissapearing somewhere.

Got another 2 miles out of my old 2.5v6 until it conked out. So resigned myself to it being fairly accurate tbh.

Unlike a piece of crap Volvo  I drove once that ran out on the motorway with 20 miles range still showing.

I've hd the display down to 4 miles remaining. There was still over a gallon left though (brimmed the tank)  ;)

I brim my tank when range gets down to about 30. Even then I've still got about 2.5 gallons left. I check the amount of fuel used and subtract it from 16.5.

I've filled mine when it's got to 30 miles and it took 59 ltrs, am I right in thinking the tank is 75 ltrs in total?

The gauge reading can be abit dodgy
When mine reads just under the red, i've still get about 5 ltrs in there  ;)
The range ( if you have been driving pretty steady ) is pretty accurate

The pumps on these are "wet" pumps and wear out pretty quick if they don't sit in fuel all the time.

You also end up with lots of cr*p in your tanks that will clog up your filter  ;)

I've had about 1000 miles with the range flashing zero.

Doesn't burn much petrol since the LPG conversion. ;D

I once had 18m from when it first flashed 0, but I slowed from normal speed to 60mph, and clenched buttocks until the next services.

Generally, they are pretty accurate (if your driving style remains consistent - it uses the average mpg over previous few miles for calculation) going by my (regular  :-[) experiences, and the amount of fuel the car takes when that low

So would this clarify you would roughly get about 10miles from the moment it shows '0' in range?

Mmmm interesting - i reckon my 2.5 does about 25mpg
However i recently put £10 in (which prompted me on this question) and the range went up to 29 so at £6 per gallon that doesnt add up.
I use the "range" option ALL the time and till now presumed it was quite accurate, better than the fuel guage which comes on when there is a gallon left and sometimes flashes when there is a gallon left i have never run out yet and dont really want to.
Quite often the range will NOT change when putting a £10 in even when resetting

the fuel left is calculated from the lasat 200 miles of use, so it's possible to run out with the indicator saying 10 or so miles to empty, and it's also possible to run out with the indicator having said zero miles for quite some time

Think on Omega, its something like last 10 miles. Hence why immediately driving economically (stupid idea, I know ::)) pretty quickly affects range on Omega.
