As some of you know, I've got an Omega 2.5td estate manual.

It's chipped with the "+10" type chip.
And i love it....but...
I've heard mention in previous posts and some searches about wastegate adjustment on the turbo.

I am aware of how this works, and also of how to do it on this car and others.
I used a similar wastegate adjustment to change the relative PSI on my rover 2.0td i had last from 14psi to 19psi (the maximum recommended long term safe level).

I'm just interested in what the computer does to counteract any adjustments i make on the BMW engine and to what extent i should be changing it.
I have a boost gauge available to check current and adjusted levels of boost.

Does anyone else here have any experience with doing this and the results/reliability of these engines in relation to degree of boost increase?

lol had mine running at 2.9 bar at one time but it was too much!!!just spun its wheels,
old one is currently running 2.2/3 according to tech 1,
as you have done this before you will know that very small adjustments are very necessary, too much wil spike it and damage will occur very easily, it does help with the smoke issue with the big chip, as it burns more of the fuel, at least in my experience!!
however when you adjust the wastegate, it will only give you extra boost till the wastegate catches up if you see what i mean? however you will see a temperature rise from the extra heat the turbo is producing, and it will also heat the incoming charge up more so wiring the intercooler fan to a switch really helps here, but it can be quite worrying to see the temp guage rise!! mine never went over 98 even up hill towing a trailer but it did have a new rad at the time, been like it for around 50k and no issues apart from that 
oh and of course you use more fuel for the first couple of months as you cant get off the grin pedal so easily!!!

Yeah that all sounds about right.

Think i'll have a fiddle and just remember not to go too crazy.
My temps are all over right now anyway due to lack of viscous.

If i pull up after a run and sit for 5 mins it goes to 98 and then 2nd stage of the fans kick in and it brings it back down to 95 or less. So i might have to put viscous on again if I do it, but then again, electric fans might still bring it down i suppose.

I think a slight increase would just sure up the air/fuel mix thanks to the chip.
