3.0 is obviously significantly quicker but a little more thirsty, although the 2.5 is lower geared so the difference in economy is not as great as you might think, going by reports I've seen on here. In all other respects they are the same engine so little to choose between them.

All 'proper' autos are more 'juicy' than the equivalent manual by nature of the way a torque converter works.

Not a great deal of difference on a motorway run (auto may even win due to slightly taller gearing) but round town an auto will cost you a few MPG.

Manual on Omegas doesnt save you a great deal on fuel economy due to the different gearging ratio...2.5 vs 3.0 around town is maybe 21 vs 17 motorway quite possibly about the same, have had 38mpg from a 3.0 before, 32-33 is fairly common, thats based on auto...add a mile or 2 per gallon perhaps for manual...

For the extra few mpg you gain on a 2.5 you lose 40bhp so its really horses for courses...

My 3.0 auto gives 18-20 round town, 35 on a run. My 3.0 manual gives 25-27 round town, 35 on a run. Hth

My car started life as a 2.5 manual.

As a 2.5, I could get 26 mpg around town with a boot full on tools and cable  :y

When the 2.5 went "bang" I dropped a 3 ltr in there but kept the 2.5 gearbox and differental  :y
I still get 25 mpg even now round town and about 34 mpg at 70 ish  :y

A steady plod at 50 - 60 gets me high 30's and when I pull up alongside some chav in his saxo at the trafic lights ............ I get about 7 mpg  ;D ;D ;D

Auto's on a run are ok but round town it will kill your wallet  ;)

My advise is get yourself a decient v6 manual and lpg it  ;) ;)
