Manual box, ATF??
« on: 03 June 2011, 16:48:34 »

On another forum with another car (albeit an Omega A)
I was informed that it is a good thing to use ATF in a manual box. So I did, drained all the old oil out, flushed it with a proprietry fluid, then added some Dexron III, ran that (wheels of the ground) for a while, drained that, then filled with fresh Dexron III.
Made for very nice gear changes on cold mornings before we moved to warmer climes. Still changing nicely after approx 12k miles. Just thought I would let you guys know. I intend doing this with the 2.5DT estate in the near future unless anyone can say that it's a definate no no and the reasons why.

Cheers
Jon

It's recommended (by manufacturers) for various boxes; Tremec TKO boxes, for example, specify Dexron III ATF..

But I'm pretty sure it all depends on the exact components (and metals) used in each box..

Well I don't know the first thing about metallurgy! all I know is that my r25/28 box on the Carlton is fine, much better than it was before. The recommendation came from ABS and those guys sure seem to know what they talking about.
That was done in 2007 just before leaving for Spain and I think this year with all the other work being done I will possibly get to take a bit out and have a look/sniff and see how it's doing in there.
