Lots of things it could be,wishbone bushes, balljoint, track rod end, drop links or even maybe the steering idler, you need to get it up in the air and check all joints and bushes

Not what I was expecting.

I thought you was going to tell us it was regularly spotted at dogging areas.

Re: My car is a knocking shop - guess it pays to advertise  ;)

Seriously I would replace front drop links first - most probably the cause, cheap to buy and easy to fit!
If that doesn't cure it you've not lost a lot 8-)

I've already replaced the drop link on the the left side as well as bushes and balljoint all to no avail, could it be the shocks or maybe the suspension strut as I'm feeling every bump on the left.Just to clarify this started as a slight knock several months ago and has increased in sound and ride conditions.

have you checked that there isn't a spring broken?  could also be a knackered top mount/top mount bearing.  either way both fairly easy jobs provided you have a decent road spring compressor.  The ones I have are things my dad made many years ago.  they slip off the springs quite regularly, goes off like a shotgun blast.  thankfully never had 3 lbs of steel in my face using them yet

holy sh#t for the sake of a tennner you risk that! op get it up in the air with a crow bar and check all the joints my mechanic also uses massive pipe wrench to press things down! to check for play! or try rocking the car up and down to see if you can get the same knocking noise while stationary it could be a knackered shock
