« on: 03 June 2011, 21:37:23 »

just bought the dvd on how to change cambelt on a v6,although not got an omega anymore, but got two gsi vectra's,so thought guide would come in handy...anyway watched dvd and confused, not hard to do :)...when refitting and fitted the top and bottom rollers on dvd set them at 12 and 3 o'clock...now on the how to guides(see links below)i got for the v6 it says "set roller to 12o'clock then further down says "set roller to 9o'clock..also "tensioner pointer should line up in the centre of the segment" where as on dvd it should be on upper edge of guide....

The idlers are concentric (except lower one on the later 2.6/3.2 engines)

Basically, position them initially (whilst fitting belt) to the loosest position, which for most is 12 oclock for top, and 9 oclock for bottom.

Once its timed up, the top tends to end up around 3 oclock, and bottom around 12 oclock

Agreed. Follow a single set of instructions and it will avoid confusion.

At the end of the day, as long as you can turn the engine over 2 turns and arrive at the correct timing, you've set the belt tension correctly and torqued up all the fasteners to the correct torque, it is fine. It's not really important how you got there, but the DVD is the definitive guide, IMHO.

The idlers are concentric  .....

They wouldn't be much bloody use if they were concentric.  Maybe your tensioner might have an influence though ......  ::) ::) ::)

They're ECCENTRIC   ;) ;) ;)

you do set the top idler at  12 o'clock and the lower one at 3 o'clock not sure where you are getting confused mate but don't forget that is the starting positions, they will be in a different position when you have finished.

Hope that helps

as far as i can see with my phone none of the links you have pasted above are anything to do with The Forum How Too's.
Perhaps you should do it properly by following the Forum DVD being done by someone who actually knows what they are talking about mate...

The amount of times we on here have heard about these Vauxhall Specialists who quite honestly don't know their arse from their elbow is untrue mate.
