Oil Filter Cannister Removal

What is the procedure for removing the Oil Filter cannister on my V6. Can't get the lid off mine ( neither can the local garage)

Is it still possible to get the part that screws into the block so I can fit standard screw-on cartridge instead?

The answers are all in the maintenance section ;)

You will need to get the lid off though as the canister is bolted to the block from inside ;)

Mine didn't want to shift on the first oil change.  Plusgas (not WD40!), wait overnight, Plusgas, wait, Plusgas, wait, Plusgas, wait etc.  Then a long bar. 

Just for my own amusement I took mine off with a torque wrench, inching it up by 10Nm each time (I know, must get out more  ::)).  It eventually yielded at 220Nm,  which I understand was an easy let-off compared with some.  They do sometimes break under the strain, in which case you will need to visit the scrappy or convert to spin-on - in the maintenance guide as LD says. 

But if you do get it off, it will never give you trouble again as long as you just nip it up gently - officially 15Nm but just common sense really, it's just a rubber O ring seal on an alloy casting.

I bought a chain type oil filter wrench like THIS(note the serrated edge) to hold the body while I undid the cap which was fairly rather tight, I ended up cable tying the handles of the wrench together and then wedging it against the crossmember.

Almost exactly what I did with mine. Only wish that I'd asked the local powerlifter to undo it for me, cos I almost did myself a mischief  :)

i manged to get mine lose & spinning free but it wound not come off!!!!!!!!!! >:(

I read the maintenance guide but it looks like I'm going to have to cut the top of mine off. Its very difficult/impossible to get enough leverage on the drive.

I bought the connector part some time ago intending to do the conversion but didn't get around to it. Now I find that the part I bought doesn't look anything like the one in the guide photo.Does anyone know if its still available?

It's got to be done now because the oil cooler is leaking badly and I will need the oil filter off to fix that.

Just put a chisel through it if you're changing to the spin on type, they break very easily.  ::)
The adapter is still available.  :y

the cartridge type filter has been around far longer than the spin on cartridge type  ::)
