A question of looms
« on: 07 June 2011, 22:02:53 »

I have a question to ask about the loom(s) in my MV6.
Are the looms all the same in all models of Omega? i.e, will the wiring exist for all the add ons that the higher spec cars have. I've noticed that in my dads Vauxhall Frontera, he has the wiring already for heated seats even though his car spec isn't high enough to have heated seats as "standard", so all he needs to get is the switch gear. The reason for my question is to assertain whether it would be possible to replace the left hand stalk on my steering column for one that has the cruise control "controls" installed and then whether it would actualy work, or am I deluded? :-?

For a 3.0 you'll also need the cruise actuator etc. think there may be one for sale in the parts section.

I can help you with the stalk and actuator but you would need to source/fabricate the actuator mounting bracket

Thanks RobG, I've had a quick look at the link, it looks quite complicated at first, but do-able. I'll have a shufty under my bonnet at the weekend and see whats already in place where the switches are concerned. My motor is a 2000 model, so I think i'm right in saying its a pre facelift model.

Grille in bonnet.......facelift. As yours is the 3.0ltr it may not have the 4-pin brake switch, everything else (which isn`t much) will be there

Ah, when exactly did the facelift model come in? I have the grill, albeit plastic  in the bonnet. I'm new to Omegas as you may have gathered....This could be important though as I need to replace the tailgate, its a bit crumpled. The bollard jumped out behind me, honest :-[. I have spotted a 97-99 tailgate on ebay thats the right colour. On the brink of buying it

The same, apart from the plastic trims...........and yours is a facelift model :y Make sure it has the same colour code, may look the same but might not be a match

It's the engine that determines whether it'll fit, not face lift or preface lift. Late facelift cars are 2.6/3.2 & use a drive by wire throttle so don't use the same set-up.  :y :y

(very early 3.0 have a short plenum & so have a shorter throttle cable so aren't suitable, but the rest is the same)

Excellent, I'm guessing the trims can be swapped over easily enough. I can feel a trip to Hereford coming on. Many thanks RobG.
