Condenser replacement woes
« on: 11 June 2011, 15:21:19 »

I spend this morning clearing the decks to install a new A/C condenser after the old one sprung a leak.  Unfortunately the new one appears to have a much steeper angle on the connection with the car A/C plumbing (see photos).  I'm not going to attempt to bend the connector back as I think it may well have been twisted already after manufacture and could therefore not be gas tight.

Am I correct in believing that all A/C condensers are identical for all Omega models? If this is the case then this condenser (16-6554) is definitely bent rather than the wrong item.

New condenser mounted in car:-

I''ve just replaced my condenser too, the pipework on mine was nothing like the old one either, it was well boxed so it couldn't have been bent in transit. You'll just have to carefully bend it to suit. Just go easy, it will go.  :y :y

Andy

I'm guessing your condenser also cam efrom autoairconparts?  Was it the same junction that didn't match up?

I need to bend the new connctor clockwise (as seen from the top) and also push it back about 1"

Mine was this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320452923600&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT as suggested by MarksDTM. Yes, it was the same connection, but yours looks good compared to how mine was.  ;) As soon as mine came out of the box I could see the pipes were a clog out. You'll easily get the movement on yours to make the connection, just support the pipe & don't strain any welds as you bend it.   :y  :y

A bit of heat will help them bend.  :-/

Had different issues with mine as it had already been fitted to a car. That block was a real pig to connect up securely though. :-/

I managed to bend the condenser block connector a little way without appearing to damage the pipework or joints.  Then mounted the nearside condenser pin onto the chassis but not the offside pin which gave a near perfect match between the condenser block and existing a/c plumbing.  Attached screw through block to secure the connection then gently rotated the offside part of the condenser anticlockwise until the offside ping located.

Evrything else is now back together, hopefully the a/c circuit hasn't been damaged during all this work
