I am wondering if my 2.5td manual estate is performing at its best.
Having driven various TD engines over the last decade for thousands of miles, the Omega seems to act almost like a very light pressure turbo, in that you cannot feel it come in.
It seems to gain momentum rather than speed up(if you get what i mean?!) there is very little power below 3000rpm

This is in stark contrast to my Landrover TDi or Xsara HDi which both pull quite strongly from about 1500rpm. I realise the Omega is a big heavy car with a relitavly low powered engine but the Landrover isnt exactly a lightweight sportscar, and it feels infinatly more urgent.

Your thoughts or suggestions are more than welcome!

Mine quick and will keep up with most of the modern diesels but i'm spoilt because mines chipped

Vauxhall detuned them.

If yours is an auto, its a lot of work to do much with it, but if its a manual, chipping is a very viable option.

yep standrd does feel sluggish if your not used to them, problem with them is you have to drive it like a petrol motor to realise the power, having said that oil and filter change you can feel the difference, the engine does like fresh oil, other things it could be are fuel filter air filter, boost leak etc etc do a full and i mean full service on it before you do anything else

It is a manual, and i have done oils(brakes,engine, gearbox,diff) and filters(Air,oil,fuel) service, but havent checked any further tbh.

I will get onto it over the weekend to check for boost leaks. Are there any common leak points?

Three things I reckon are probably worth doing, then:

1) Pull the top boost hose (goes from the black plastic 'TURBO' bit into the inlet manifold) off and make sure the EGR valve is not stuck open.. in fact, while you're there - unbolt the EGR valve (four bolts, two nuts) and clean it all up to ensure it operates freely. EGR valve is this thing and the pipe it's attached to.
2) Pull the boost hose that goes to the MAP sensor off and make sure it's clean of oil/gunk and has no splits in it. It goes from roughly here on the underside of the manifold (you can just find it/get fingers on it) to the MAP sensor here.
3) Get some Fortis Diesel Treatment and stick it through the tank for good measure

EGR & MAP hose are fairly common points of failure

And the Chip has been fitted. Wow what a difference!
Only minor problem is the Clutch doesn't seem to be able to cope, Oh well!

lol welcome to the club!
we really should state if the clutch is over 80k old it will die very soon after chipping!!!

lol chipped mine 5 years ago the car had done 82k with a grandad and his wife, from new, clutch lasted 3 weeks and 321miles before it slipped at anything over 3 k
fitted a 3litre clutch and 55k later and with towing a twin axle caravan all over spain its still sound!!! in fact it feels nicer than my new estate!! lol

Now that's interesting G. How much difference is there between the standard 2.5 TD clutch and the 3.0 version?
(this is what I might have to do anyway after the diesel spill)

its a little bigger Jon, but fits in the flywheel no worrys!! it fills the dmf which the original dont so I sanded it out where the original hadnt been running in it and had absolutely no problems, will say though that vaux realised it around 3 or 4 uyears nto the cars life and they then speced the 3 litre clutch for the diesel

Still need to get to see you in Spain though, need the old girl tech 1 before she goes in to the body shop, see if anything needs sorting while she's in there.
