Does it come up if somebody assists it on the way up? If so, just a dry lubricant (stuff for nylon curtain rails) on the runners.

If not, its often the motor...  ...chrisgixer is the resident expert now :P

Pm Robsymv6 on here, he was advertising a pair of irmscher fog lights a couple of weeks ago, may have sold them by now though.

No point asking TB for his motor, I nicked it.  ;D another 20 minute job(I thought it was the relay box) that turned into 4 hours with springs and cogs all over the place.

I suppose if not replacing the complete blind, as there are few about, and a few broken ones, get the motor with the gear box attached and swap the two as one unit. Saves an awful lot of agro.

Having said that I enquirerd at the dealers re a new blind and they quoted £60. :o. Now that sounds far too cheap to me so maybe he ment just the parcel shelf... Or just the fabric. Or something other than the complete working unit,"may" be worth a call... Maybe he said £160... :-/

Fill in more details about yourself, so makes it easier to know for what vehicle (model, engine) your looking for?  :y
i know you have a m/facelift, with irmscher bumpers others might not  ;) ;)

The blind on my one does the same thing. It is the motor. Fitted a replacement motor and it worked fine. Problem is it did the same thing again 2 years later. I use the blind so infrequently the motor seizes up. I found though if you give the motor a couple of taps when the switch is pressed it will work again for a while. Had to take out the parcel shelf to get at it though. Reckon if it is used regularly this won't happen. Is there a way of cleaning the motor to prevent if from seizing up as quickly?

Indeed! As TB (and swmbo  ::)) often remarks, 'Use it or lose it'!  ;D

"Reckon if it is used regularly"...

That right there is the problem with the blinds...how regularly ARE they actually used.

In my case, hardly ever. Uunless you've got very wingey kids in the back or you transport celebs around I'm not sure i see the point in them really.

Usefull at night sometimes to help cut down glare I guess but generally they are just another gadget to fail.

That said, I have film tinted windows so perhaps I'd use said blind more often if i didn't.

Aye Chris, what I meant to ask was how wide are they and how much space does the motor take to install.
I was going to do this with a Senator rear blind into the tailgate of the Carlton estate (still thinking about it) and to all intents and purposes it would fit. All I would have to do is cut the slot in the tailgate inside panel to accept the blind itself.
Just thinking out loud really ;)

Ah, I suppose given enough time, money, effort etc anything is possible. Is this to cover the rear window vertically ish? As an estate version of the saloon? ( not cover the load space )

Given the angle of the saloon window and depth of the mechanism reaward of the blind I guess the unit would have to protrude inboard a little, and some very sturdy brackets bolted in to hold it, theres a fair bit of leverage going on although that would be improved the more vertical it's application.

Actually, just wondering if it would be better suited mounted in a vertical position as opposed to same as saloon but angled up?
Plus there's running a power supply to the dash. I'm crap with electrics, but I guess that's straightforward.

Anything which is designed to move will go belly-up if it isn't used.  Look at your joints, as an example.
