Rear brake pads.

I'm half way through changing the rear pads on my MV6.(Lovely sunny day :y). The old pads have a separate chrome plate on the back (same size as the pad).The new pads do not come with this.

What is the function of this part? Should I use the old chrome plate when I fit the new pads?...

Any ideas please?

They are anti squeal shims Opti, & yes refit them after cleaning them up & adding a thin smear of copperslip grease to both faces (don't get any on the braking surface!) :y

 Thanks Mr Phil. I thought that may be the case. The pads arrived from Ebay without any pins and clips. They said this is how they come . They did sent me a separate fixing kit the next day. :y

I'm starting to get pissed now. First RRD Automotive didn't send me a fixing kit.  >:( >:( Now they've finally sent me one, the pins are too short and the clips are too small. I suppose all I can do now is refit the old pins and clips. >:( Not ideal. I haven't left any feedback for RRD Automotive yet ::) Remember this name.

thats the kit for the non vented disks, longer pins / anti rattle spring with the right ones. - springs dirt cheap at VX, pins came with my pads, as did the shims.

I didn't know that Mr Jimbob.
I've had to reuse the clips and pins after rubbing them down in order to rid them of the worst corrosion.

Quick fit wanted £89 to do the job. So I've saved £74.... :y :y :y

To be sure that they will fit I only use dealer parts. Everything is then supplied and the job is a straightforward one. Too many times have I had problems with aftermarket ones so now I just do not use them at all. I have 3 full sets of them that I put on then took back off after a few miles cos they were not up to scratch. Brakes are important so its not worth saving even a few quids really.

RRD Automotive have contacted me and offered a full refund (£15.50) even though I have the new pads fitted to the car (with the old pins and clips). I'm guessing  it's their way of avoiding negative feedback.

Good news all the same.... :y :y :y.

I have a brand new set of pins and clips for non vented rear disc brakes if anyone needs them.... :y
