2.2 fuel economy
« on: 18 June 2011, 15:15:11 »

hi all i am thinking about buying a 2.2 auto omega i was just wondering what sort of MPG they return i only do 12 miles per day to work and back round trip and like to get my foot down every now and then.
Any info appreciated to give me a rough idea as if its only a couple of mpg different on the 2.5v6 i may as well look at one of those cheers.

:y :yi ran a 2.2 for a few months and new have a 2.6 and to be honest I've only noticed a slight difference in mpg but a hell of a difference in power and smoothness . also as the price of the v6s has nosed dived you get a bigger bang for your buck .  :y

I have a 2.2 but the only way to go is V6 imho, the only downside being the car insurance premium :( :y

seems the desmond is a heavy car for its engine size hence why you get a better deal with a 2.6 or 3.2

My 2.2 auto averages about 23 mpg but I think a manual will do a bit better. I used to have a 2.5 V6 manual estate a few years ago, which was about the same.

My 2.2 is averaging 30.7 mainly commuting 25 miles each way and a bit of running around at weekends.  Commuting varies between 50/70 dual carriageways and stop/go rush hour traffic.

When you think about it in terms of mass and acceleration, all the same-fuel same-gearbox omegas are going to come out roughly the same in terms of fuel use, irrespective of engine size, given approximately the same usage in driving style terms.

Obviously with the larger engines, there'll be the scope/temptation to use the higher powers available, therefore a worse consumption figure when this is exploited.
