Help never had heating
« on: 20 June 2011, 08:52:36 »

Morning all i'm after some advice if possible, i have a 2000 "v" reg manual 2.5 v6 CD Omega estate . When i bought it some 3 yrs ago i ended up doing a head gasket change on it, after finding out the previous owner had used K seal to try to repair the head gasket leak. The problem i have though is that the heating or airconditioning side has never worked it blows but there is no heat or really cold air coming out, Are there any common faults with the system and i have changed the pnuematic bypas valve at the rear of the engine. The only thing i can think of is that the k seal has blocked up the heater matrix. Any advice would be appreciated. Also is it normal to be changing the coil pack every 2 yrs :o

these additives can and do block the matrixes.

My old car suffered the same way, I had to flush the matrix every few months for heat to work (Guide in the maint section)

Long term fix would be to replace the matrix.

check all vac pipes are routed as they should be as well.

aircon unrelated, and will be down to lack of gas in the system, possibly with condensor or somthing needing changing as well.

and no, you should get more than 2 years out a coil pack, what make are you buying?  id be looking at genuine or bosch next.

Have been informed by a collegue that there is a pnuematic controlled flap in the blower system that diverts the outside air into the heater or cooler side that is prone to coming out of its clips. Have you heard anything like this before and your right about the air con it does need recharging but i can live with out air con heating for the winter is more important. Many thanks for your advice. :y

the flap issue won't cause this.

are you sure that the heater by-pass valve ( the vacuum driven thing ) is connected properly.

Vacuum should ONLY be supplied to the diaphragm when the air-con is "ON" AND both internal controls are set to "LO"

Whip the very small vac pipe off the top of the HBV and plug the pipe with a small screw, leaving the HBV "open". If you still don't get heat its either a blocked matrix or a stuck shut HBV as the HBV should be fully open with no vac.

Its a fairly quick and easy check to do .. :)

If push comes to shove and you have to change the heater matrix then the 'cheats' method here is a doddle.
