The only thing that makes the pump loud is if the timing is out or the engine has been turned over by hand anti-clockwise.
Ive seen cases when the throttle body from bmw(525) was fitted to a omega and it was noisey.
If you can get the fault codes using the paperclip test post them up  :y

hi

just been out to the car and carried out the paper clip test, (easy when you know how). i came up with the following codes. 64 + 96. i noticed on the way home from work today, when changing down the gearbox there was a brief flash of the management light! only noticed twice as sun was shining bright.

The flash of the managment light means the pump is failing. :( My own omega done the same thing then it started stalling when i took my foot off the gas whilst driving, coming to a stop at traffic lights, junctions etc.
The only fix is a new or re-con pump which will cost around £1600+fitting(brand new)
The usual fix for code 64 would be putting diesel treatment through the system but the pump is beyond this.

Hope you have better luck than I did lol.
What to do is try any breakers to see if they have any.
replacing the pump isn't dificult so your best bet is you remove the pump from a donor car then you know how it goes back together.
If you do get a pump from a breakers get the pump re-coned before you fit it if your finances allow it :y

Get some diesel magic from Halfords and a new fuel filter, fill the filter with diesel magic and then fit it to the car see if that helps ;)
