Slow through the gears
« on: 15 July 2011, 00:29:51 »

Hi...this is my 1st post...I've just bought a 2.2 Estate Petrol AUTO  but I find it very sluggish going through the gears..I would have thought that being a 2.2 it would have had more pulling power...it's ok when crusing but it revs the hell out of the engine when moving off or when going up steepish hills...I noticed today a ''gearbox' check on the display but it went out again.
   Thanks

First off, check the fluid level.

There's a 'How to' in the Maintenance Guides.

It sounds to me as though it's setting off on third gear due to what ever is making the 'gearbox check' show on the display. Try manually shifting the gearbox. you need to hook it up to a code reader that'll read gearboxes too.  :y

Just a thought....do these boxes have "winter" mode? Quite a few other autos ive driven have one which gives a 3rd gear pull away for ice etc  :-/

They do, but you select it each time you start the car, by default winter is OFF. But a gearbox fault is likely to put the gearbox into 3rd gear.  ;)

Agreed, by default it should be off but by fault it could be on i.e. need to sell car, switch shagged....I know, will remove bulb! Is it east to bypass the switch :y
