I searched older treads

mr DTM posted this

"9120541 early transmission oil,

93165290 Late"

the services see those numbers on the list but they give 1840182 numbered oil instead.. :-?

one bmw mechanic friend (they also use getrag 5 speed gearboxes) said its ok to use ATF80 on old models and ATF 220 for new..

now what is what ?     :-/

and also all oils at sae75 norm ok to use ?

Well, it's wet and slippery so it won't fail immediately. By the time it does (and it will, prematurely) they'll have found something else to blame it on. ;D

I don't believe it's a service item, so manufacturer's line is that it lasts the life of the gearbox. If you want to change it every so often, so much the better but it doesn't get contaminated with combustion products like engine oil so lasts much longer. I doubt there's any benefit in changing it more often than every 80k or more, TBH.

imo, the gearbox oil only (if )shows the need for change in winter when you are having prolems to shift when cold.. I generally use wynss additives.. the reason I ask is I bought a second hand gearbox  and not sure of the oil condition.. :-/

For the Carltons & Senators, Dexron II Autobox Fluid was highly recommended for the manual boxes - made gearchanges far smoother, esp. in cold weather.

I see no reason why the same cannot be applied to Omega manual boxes.

I've always used genuine VX manual Gearbox fluid in mine... always been clunky to change from 1st to 2nd from cold and after 200 miles. Could i change it to sae75 instead. bit thicker me thinks. original VX is as thin as tap water?

excuse the post hijack :)

the GM oil is basically ATF - that's the one to use.

the 75's, 80's etc. are way too thick.

mechanics also said the same.. although they use it they dont advice..  they asked for me to learn the original oil what the factory filled actually..

but during my search on the net I see many people accept 75w90 (after Omegatoys post) as a good standard.. and some even adviced 75w140 :-?
