Can anyone help with a few Omega problems...?
« on: 31 July 2011, 13:47:47 »

Please note that I'm no mechanic, I know very little and the car was bought as seen, no warranty...

I've recently bought a 52 plate 2.2 Auto, there's a few things bugging me. The dash display is stuck 24.9 MPG, doesn't alter no matter what, is there any way to reset it? And the Engine Management light is on, after being hooked up to a computer to see what the problem is, it's saying Mass Airflow. After looking under the bonnet there's a cable unplugged from the Mass Airflow Meter, plugging this back in causes the car to almost stall and hardly move.

Any replies/advice/info would be greatly appreciated before I start to pay for it.

when you say the mpg screen doesnt move no matter what? do you mean the mpg figures dont go up/down after driving, or the mpg screen is frozen and doesnt display any other info such as range/cnst mpg etc??

It does display other info such as range and outside temp. But the MPG never changes... always 24.9.

Understood.. :y
On your stalk theres 2push buttons on the side, 1 which flicks through the different info's. 2 i forgot the use of that button but anyway. But when on the mpg screen push down and hold that button (not the one you pressed to flick through) and it should reset and hopefully change after you have driven it a while.  :y

Thanks, I've reset the display as you instructed although the "pedal trick" isn't doing anything...

I am sure that the maf is knackered. Sure I remember a post saying if your car is running rough you need to disconnect it. If the car runs done with it unplugged then a new maf is needed. Worth posting a wanted ad in the test section and asking an admin to move it for you. Seem to recall that 2.2 doesn't support pedal trick

Right...

for your average speed - press and hold the R button, it will reset to 0 and start on a new average for you.

MAF unplugged - causes it to run with a default map - not ideal.
plugging it in shows its knackered - therefore I would replace...

I would also recommend a decent make such as bosch rather than an ebay chinese cheapy.

Plenty of breakers on here will sell you a working second hand one for much less. As said put a wanted add in the test section and pm an admin to move it to sales and wants
