Hi guys,
had the car 12 months, perfect in every way until!!!-:( Had to leave car off road for 6 weeks then, when I returned, battery flat. Gave it a good charge and it fired-up in no time. Engaged D and there was a unhealthy thud feeling and the engine warning light came on.
The car drove on in limp mode (in 3rd, no sport etc) but within a mile the light was out and everything was fine. I thought, possibly a side effect of being stood for a month, and went on my merry way without incident.
Following morning same thing, and every morning since , but after a mile (when engine is nearly up to temp) it corrects itself.
Any ideas?
Would it benefit from ATF change? here's hoping!

Right, i can do technical, just not talk it so bear with me lol.
I used to have a Vectra V6 cdx auto with exactly the same problem. Start car, put into D, autobox fault shows on mid and car goes into limp mode. However, if i left the car to warm up for about 10 minutes, could put into drive and no problem whatsoever.
After a bit of research, it pointed to the auto selector. The lube inside had lost its lube qualities and only regained them when it had warmed up before engaging Drive. Vauxhall say it is a non servicable part however, if you have a steady hand and patience, you can seperate (watching out that you dont lose or misplace the brass contacts and springs that sell the car when it can be turned on for example) you can clean it out and replace with a better quality grease)

I would check the battery voltage before and after a cold start. Maybe the battery is not in good shape after being laid up and the voltage is too low for the autobox ECU to function.

A fluid change is never a bad thing if the history is unknown, though, but, at this stage I'd just check the level (with the engine running and the fluid warmed up) and condition of the fluid.

Selector switches can give problems as well on Omegas but not normally temperature related.

Reading the codes from the engine and gearbox would also be useful if you can get it to a Tech 2.

Thanks for your advice, will do voltage check tomorrow AM , not good at AM's.
Pedal trick gives me a 1700 which (if I'm looking at the right list) is "service vehicle soon Request from transmission control module" could be a clue?

Also check for too many volts, Ive had a limp mode issue once when revved, fluke DVM was showing 16 - 17v when revved. problem solved after alternator swap.
