Hello

I'm thinking of fitting an LSD from
a 2001 ex-plod MV6 to my 1999 facelift. I accept it's not a true LSD in the general meaning and don't want it for drifting so a couple of questions for you -

- Am I likely to see any real benifit re performance/handling?
- Is it a difficult job to fit? I asked cos it's not something I'd try myself so concerned the cost will outweigh the benefits?!
- Have I hit a midlife crisis early and is this simply an unecessary failed attempt to be cool?!

Not hard to fit, just a matter of undiong a load of bolts to take your diff out and then doing the same in reverse.
Whether or not its worth it probably depends on how hard you drive on the twisties tbh. Imo most people wouldnt notice a huige difference most of the time. But those who really push it hard round tight and twisty roads would.
Also useful in slippery conditions as well, of course.

useful for gaining traction out of bends, etc...

and for gaining traction when it's very slippery.

more easy to get sideways in the wet.

you have to be a very keen driver to appreciate that lot tho !

Definitely worth it, just be careful on wet roundabouts in the rush hour

Careful on roundabouts? Thats what rwd is all about, watching where you are going through the side window lol. Not that i do that nowadays unless on a track however

Being off an explod the ratio will probably be a bit lower, so slightly quicker of the mark, lower top speed (UK?) and slightly worse MPG.

Good fun, assuming the road is wide enough, and they do help in snow / ice conditions.

Out of interest what type of LSD is the standard fit meggy one? Is it a viscous like a Sierra or something different/better?

My first experience of LSD action was on a very wet M40 roundabout, had it nicely sideways!!

Cracking fun, also drove one of the x-plods from Sky's Road Wars, as soon as you pull away with any kind of lock on you can tell it has an LSD. It was nackered though!

Not sure what they are to be honest although I'm not convinced they lock up like a true LSD so more like an open diff??? This is however coming from someone that only knows as much as he reads or is told!

This was another thing I wondered - its likely to have been thrashed, what sort of life expectancy for ex-plod LSD?

LSD on my car look like that, come of ex police car where cover 150K miles, got in for over year and work every time . my mate got LSD on his car where cover 200K and still works fine

It is noticble different coming going from a MV6 without to with the back end definatly feels more planted when giving it some gas

it's a plate-type LSD, the most basic there is. But they definitely lock tho.
