.. does the power steering fluid have anything to do with  ....

Yes, the power steering is speed sensitive and gets its signal from the ABS  ;)

would that cause the lights to come on though

No.

Andy was saying that the Speed Sensitive part of the Power Steering is linked to the Speed Signal.

Low fluid wont cause your issues.

It's the ECU!

ok thanks,
i'll see what i can sort out, but keep your eyes peeled for a few parts
Meaning :question :question

meaning i might break it

For the sake of a £30-£50 purchase you will break the car?

If you dont have £130 to spend on it, the likelyhood is you dont have a lot of cash to replace the car.  Yes, I'm making a lot of assumptions.

I have an ECU here from a 3.0 Auto Saloon which would, after 2 hours work sort you out.

Unfortunately, I'm keeping this as a spare.  :y

Was looking at your car on the bay but when the "owner" refused to answer every question I asked, decided it was a bit of a lemon

for your information the owner of the car wasnt even in the country to answer any questions, his neighbour was selling the car for him and he didnt know anything about the car apart from what he was told by the owner before he left, its not a lemon i juts havent got the funds to fix it if its going to cost to much, hence why i said i may break it, so what if i need 250 posts this isnt the only club im a member of,

I have broken perfectly working Omegas with Tax and MOT on them for no reason whatsoever other than not needing the car, most are worth more in parts than as a whole

Part nº on label on bottom of ecu - you need to remove it to see it - blame Vx for that  :-?  :)

Glad you've decided to believe OOF diagnosis - when abs ecu breaked usually lose speedo plus some power steering assistance.

ive been having a nosey under the bonnet of my omega and it looks like the pipe that comes from the bottom of the power steerng bottle is leaking, and i take it from what i have read/been told that the abs ecu sits rght underneath it, could the leak be causing the fault ie shorting it out, would it fix the problem if i changed the pipe and cleaned the abs ecu to get rid of the power steering fluid  :-?

These ecus are very well sealed, it is usually a solder connection that fails. There are pics of this in either the maintenance guides or common probs, I forget which.

ISTR that if you need to remove the knackered hose to get at the ABS block, the you should probably replace it before it fails completely.

i went out today and coated the abs ecu in wd40 and then fired it up and the ligts went out, ive just done about 4 miles stopping and starting the car and the lights went out each time like them should, so i came home and topped up the power steering fluid and covered the abs ecu in some more wd40, so i'll see how it goes over the next couple of days before i buy an ecu
