Sorry, Me again with another issue lol Paint issue
« on: 12 August 2011, 13:45:49 »

I have got a prodrive spoiler, and where numpty I bought it off removed it with a knife they managed to slice the spoiler itself and scratch it. So I am most likely going to have to re paint it and use filler.

Can anyone give me any tips please? I am going to repaint the whole spoiler as they damaged both top and bottom!

I am determined no matter what it takes or how long it takes to get my bodywork near mint again as well as doing some cheeky upgrades and mods in the process lol.

Cheers.

My camera wont pick up the damage as it is such a fine slice.

Is there any way of sorting this without having to respray the whole thing?

This is not a bump I promise, but forgot to add is there any way of sorting that nasty quite deep scratch on the last couple of photo's too without having to respray the whole thing?

I would think that filler primer might be your best option rather than filler.Imo you will need to spray the whole thing (easier to do it before you put it on the car) but spraying a spoiler is no biggy tbh. Be patient - several light coats and then one close up cot, then lacquer. :y

sand it with 320 and water..(if you are in hurry 220)  clear the old paint as much as possible..use filler primer as said..sand with 400 then 800 again.. and paint it..

ps: if you have time.. paint with same color code without laquer for 2 tiny layers as base.. let dry.. and sand with 1200 after drying.. and apply the final paint and laquer later.. results will be much better..

Patience!!!  If already fitted then you have a big masking job. No big deal, but has to be done properly. You may find it worth trying to touch in the scratches & avoid spraying the lot. Fill them with primer/surfacer if not too deep, using a fine paintbrush. This may take several applications, & when level and smooth, apply topcoat & lacquer. It's difficult to see how many scratches, how deep, where situated etc. You may get away with it, but as already said, spraying the whole spoiler is no big deal.

Thank you agemo. I will try that as I don't really want to respray the whole thing lol

It's certainly worth a go, you could still end up doing the full spoiler, but that silver isn't the easiest colour to match. You may not even notice the scratches, or they may be blatantly obvious, we can't tell. Best of luck.

I'm no expert on body work, and it may be different for a non metal part, but I'd say no matter what you do the slices will always be visible, 'specially on the boot with all that slamming...
