Instrument illumination ?
« on: 20 August 2011, 20:43:18 »

As it is starting to get get dark a little earlier these days I switched the lights on to travel to the local shop......( That's a local shop for local people ..... ;D ;D ;D)

The speedo lights up as does the fuel gauge. However, there is no illumination whatsoever for the temperature gauge, and the rev counter is only illuminated from 4,000-7,000 RPM.

Please don't tell me I have to spend hours ripping the instrument panel apart just to replace a crappy bulb (or two)  that has blown.... ;)

When you get around to ripping out removing the instrument housing .... replace ALL the bulbs not just the blown ones....

Law of sod says that one of the older ones will blow within a week .. I actually believe that the disturbance of the panel and/or differing resistance values of the new bulbs in parallel causes the old ones to blow..... whatever the reason .. it happens everytime !!!!

The left hand side of my panel would fail to light but a thump on the top of the dash cured it :y :y

Just out of interest, as mine tend to need a thump to get working sometimes, before I venture into taking it apart to replace the bulbs, does anyone know what bulbs are needed?

waits with baited breath, I replaced all mine a few months ago, but I suspect that the bulbs supplied by Vauxhall are a higher 'wattage' than the originals  :-/ :-/ :-/

and personally I'd do the MID as well while its out - law of the sod and all that...

with 4 of these

http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/R509TGR-Dashboard-Bulbs-12V-2W-PCB-Light-Green-Base.html

chances are you are running on less than 4 of those anyway, most people dont notice until the last one goes!
