Minor interior illumination question
« on: 21 August 2011, 12:51:11 »

Hi guys, thought as I'm slowly working my way through some of the other major issues with the car I'd start asking about some minor ones.

Firstly, the main light switch. I've pulled the unit out and checked the bulb, looks like it's working. However, the upper part of the unit (arrowed) doesn't light up. Silly question, but is it supposed to light up. I'd have assumed that it would but could be wrong. If it's supposed to light up, is there another bulb inside the unit that needs changing, or is it a sealed unit? The lower half does light up

The other issue is the gear selection display. The "P/R" and "1" aren't lit up, not got round to pulling it out yet to check but, again, I'd assume that all should light up. If so, are the bulbs changeable or not?

Just minor issues as I say, but I do like things to work if they're supposed to.
Any advice you can offer would be appreciated, thanks.

The headlight switch does light up but not with the headlights on. IIRC, it illuminates with the ignition on.

Looks like a couple of failed bulbs under the gear selector indicator but I haven't taken one apart so not sure what type of bulb or how many there are down there.

The top part of mine doesn't light up at all, only the lower part where the fog light switches are.

Replace the gear selector panel with a new or second hand unit. My original one never used to light up on D or P when i had the headlights turned on which ended up being a failure of the bulbs.

A second hand replacement from RobG sorted me out.

Thanks Rob, I could be interested in that. It's not high on my list at the moment but just in case, cost/condition and how would I pay you?

Again, thanks for that Rob. Did see 1 or 2 down the breakers when I was there. Next time I'm visiting I'll look for one.

Can the soldered in LED be replaced mine doesnt light up, Whilst on the subject of interior lights above the  small buttons on the centre console which direct the air flow of the blower there is a small grill does this have a bulb behind it.
