hi just a quick one is the automatic gearbox on the estate any good as i'm looking to buy another omega after my 2.6 v6 manual died a death

bit of an open ended question  ;) Most V6's have an auto box in them & loads of cars have galctic milages on them with no undue problems. All depends on how they've been looked after & whether they've been abused.  :y
Many here wouldn't consider anything else.  :y

yeah sorry about the open ended question I've never owned a auto before and i don't quite know what to look for and all the higher spec ones i can find are autos on the estate   :-?

As Andy says the autoboxes are generally pretty reliable,however there is a fuel consumption penalty to pay around town,on longer runs they are not much different to a manual :y

I get 22-23mpg out of mine driving locally here in hilly cornwall,a heavy right foot will drop it below twenty :'(

that's not to bad as your in Cornwall i know my mpg goes up when i'm down there anyone know a rough combined mpg compered to a manual?

there is another thread on here mate about MPG.. But your talking about 26-27 mpg in my opinion. On a run 35MPG :)

Wouldn't an auto be better at a steady 70-80mph run though? Thought the autos revved less due to different radtio?  :-?

properly i don't know it all depends how good the autos are and how responsive the 2.5 cd/cdx or the 3 elite but i think i will miss it
