Omega TD ECU
« on: 16 January 2008, 07:25:05 »

I have a spare ECU for my 94 Omega Estate. I would like to have the immobiliser decoded/removed. The ECU box is BOSCH 0 281 001 215. I have contacted a number of 'specialists' who show this box as something they can help with but then advise they cannot help me at all.

I have a long term project to place one of these engines in a boat, but first I need to know if it will work. The immobiliser is the first stage, second stage is to find a diagram of the pins so I can match the system.

If I can't get this project off the ground it will still be handy to have an ECU that I can fit if the current one goes South.

I would appreciate any help on this matter.

My ECU knowledge is fairly limited on the Omega - but is the immobiliser a transponder chip inside the key as with later Vauxhalls?

If so, including the ignition switch and barrel (with receiver ring behind it) would surely be a good security feature (cheaper marine insurance?) and would be less hassle to integrate with the wiring loom.

If not, how is the immobiliser deactivated in the car?

Hi Dave

As I understand it, the key ect is coded so that the car will not start unless it has the correct code.  The immobilser chip in the ECU has to be decoded so that I don't need that particular key.  I agree that it is an added security feature but it's just not required on the boat.

So, I need someone who can decode the chip and provide a diagram of the pins on the ECU.

Thanks for your interest.

I think you may struggle with this one.

We can indeed read and re-write the ecu data and have some very expensive test equipment for doing so. (before I am deluged with eCU enquiries - we only invested in this for research and do not repair them)

but we have absolutely no way of turing it off . . . .

Yoour best bet would be to find a local mobile vehicle locksmith as many of them carry ECU programmers and may well know a few tricks of the trade, just don`t expect to find it either published for you to do yourself, or even cheap !

Hi Phil,

Ive had a 2.5TD immobiliser removed before by a Re Chip Garage, dont have the details handy now but can post them later if you wish.

Might be worth to give them call, even if its just to pick their brians.

Chris

That's great news.  Did you have the immobiliser removed from the ECU in the car or did you do this because of replacement?

The ECU was the one in the Car, apparently is was easier / cheaper to diss arm and fit a Toad Alarm than repair it?? (probally going to get told this is incorrect).

The have the engine for the ECU.  This is the possible project for later.  This ECU, with immobilser removed should, I understand, work in another car.

I'll give it a go if you could post or PM the details of the re chip service.

Thanks again

Note that early cars had IR fobs and thus are completely different to later cars.

My car has an IR fob and so did the one that this ECU comes from.  Does this make it easier or more difficult?

Thanks for your interest.

Yes, it makes a big difference as it means that the ECU does not need to be de-commisioned using tech 2 (which I have).

The immobiliser setup on the early cars with IR remote was a simple relay affair unlike the later units which use a transponder with unique code, an immobiliser ECU (attached to the ignition barrel) which has the transponder codes programmed into it and a further code (different to the transponder ones) which is sent to the ECU upon recognition of a valid transponder!

OK, so it sounds as though it's a less troublesome job.  Do you know where I can get it done?

Thanks for your interest.
