Engine Management light ?????

Dont know if im in the right area to ask this.  The engine management light came on today I presume its that, its the one that looks like an engine.  It goes off after a short while then comes back on when idling.  Ive ordered a new idle control valve as the idling is eratic, this was like this before the light came on will this have something to do with the light coming on?

Before changing bits willy nilly, look on 2nd page of Maintenece Guides section of this site for 'Paperclip test'
