Alex,
May I take the oppurtunity to welcome you to OOF and to clarify a few points that you, and some others have raised.
But if you don't want to share your "secrets" don't invite all sundry to pm for them.
I didn`t, I replied to a question that Lizzie had asked and at no point did I ask everybody to email me.
Its very insulting to be invited to request information and then be told that you're not good enough to be included in the clique.
Again, I didn`t ask everybody to PM me, but I stand by my reasons for not replying to everybody.
Before my posting here no-one knew I had even sent a pm but many people HAD annouced in this thread that they were sending one
Can I state for the record, why on earth has everybody done that? I fail to see why a public forum needs an indication that a private PM has been sent?
DaveDND has just publicly announced his personal disrespect for several of those members. He has compounded the insult by saying that he's not even going to bother with a personal reply
I have little respect for people publicly pulling apart what I have said out of context. Climb down off your high horse my friend, take a deep breath and re-read what has been said and think about it before you go much further.
it was he that invited everyone to waste their time with pm's in the first place. Now we have some members posting thanks and others being made to feel worthless.
Again, no I didn`t - The invitation to send me a Private Message was to Lizzie. Quite why poeple have posted other comments as a result of my Private Messages to them is not something I can control or condone.
If new members are going to be treated like that they won't stay around for long. I'm glad to say that everyone else I have encountered on the forum has been fantastically welcoming.
If new members are going to throw tantrums towards people that they have never actually entered into a two way conversation with, is it any surprise that I too may become a little hostile when I finally get around to talking to you?
What we seem to have here is a guy running a business that appears to specialise in cracking proprietory coding information for commercial gain, that obviously involves a serious investment of time and resources. It must go against the grain for a businessman to be giving away knowledge of commercial value to him in a free forum when there is obviously great demand. I can't think what possessed him to offer it in the first place.
Yes, I am a Business, and I give an awful lot of my time and advice freely to members of OOF, but you appear to be making a lot of other assumptions about me for which you have no knowledge of. Besides, who said that anything was being given away in a Free forum? Its because of greedy "want something for nothing" attitudes such as yours that have prevented me from offering this to everybody, and this is exactly the reason why.
At the end of the day, I can understand the need for technical forums and the invaluable help that they can provide, and in order to promote activity in the forum, I want to ensure that there are no "Freeloaders" or people simply not willing to join in any threads or conversations or adding to any input.
So, I would say to Alex ...."Jump in, join in and enjoy. Yes, it's a car forum -- but it's not ALL about cars"
I woldn`t just say that to Alex, I`d say it to everybody. Its a good community out there, and the more you join in, the more benefits will become apparent from its memebers once you get to know them.
But what I would say to Alex though, is Know Thy Enemy ! because if you want to start a fight with me, then you really ought to get to know a bit about me first instead of just ranting away, or you may not realise what or who you are up against.
