Siren Coming from under bonnett
« on: 15 August 2008, 09:59:18 »

Over the last few weeks when the car has been sat an alarm siren starts going off. I know its not the car alarm as the indicators do not flash and the alarm is self makes more of a horn nosie. Now it has started going off when driving and starting the engine. I think it could be a power sounder, is there anyway of turning it off?

Un-plug it! ;) Seriously the back-up batteries in there leak with age & kills the electrickery bits inside.

The plastic thing under the windscreen that your wiper spindles are poking through.  ;)  ;)

Edit: Just noticed you're in Deutchland. I don't know whether it's still on your driver's side or not, but it's certainly on a RHD car's driver's side  .....  ;D

Mine had EXACTLY the same earlier this week. As I went to unplug it the pcb came away with the plug - well rotten and rusty inside the powersounder, surprised it didn't fail much earlier!

Still no problems with the siren, but the alarm does not sound. Not too fussed about this but could the conentions on the plug be shorted to allow the alarm horn to work.

On mine the powersounder was on the right hand side with separate plugs for that and the regular alarm horn. Have you unplugged both plugs accidentally? I've unplugged the powersounder and the regular alarm works just as it did before.

The alarm horn and the powersounder are mounted side by side.  The alarm horn (nothing to do with normal horn) sounds when alarm is set off. Powersounder is used if some scrote disconnects battery (or otherwise tries to disable alarm).

Sounds like your horn is unplugged.
