is this normal?
« on: 24 August 2008, 16:32:19 »

probably a silly question but is it normal for the stereo to only come on when the ign light is on? only every other car ive had it comes on in the aux position [as in first notch on turning the key] so thought id ask before i fit another head unit.

Both mine come on in "aux" position & stay on as long as key in ignition switch (ie can turn off from aux but leave key in swithch and radio etc will stay on) :)

just been through it, found the switched live [red/white] totally dead, checked the fusebox, it says its fuse 6 [with a *by it] in the handbook, there is no contacts for a fuse to plug into on fuse position 6!, checked the ignition switch & there isnt an aux live coming from it, am i to assume that this is due to the car being an older one?, or if there is a problem with an aux live could this be contributing to my g/box problem as in the feed to the ecu? [long shot but it makes you think], so if somebody can confirm my stereo wiring is normal & in fact the older ones didnt have an aux live please let me know :y

Have a '96 GLS estate, and the radio, (CCR600 upgraded) works with the ignition off, in 'aux' position as well as the 'run' position.
Radio works for 1 hr when turned on, without key in ingition, and as normal when key in ignition, so suspect you have some sort of problem with your headunit.
Having looked at my fusebox, there is no fuse in 6, and no aux wiring either.
Hope this helps..

cheers dodger!, i thought i was going mad, im chucking the head unit away anyway when i get the car on the road & put in my one with the s,d card reader, might be cheap but sounds good & no skipping discs over speed bumps ;), i would imagine ive got to wire in the aerial amp via the auto aerial wire or amp remote one.
