Trafficmaster - Is it worth it?
« on: 14 October 2008, 18:07:38 »

So my car has the trafficmaster button to the left of the steering column - when pressed tells me the license has expired and renewal number.

Two questions - is it worth renewing the license?  Have never used before but guessing it is fairly outdated nowadays.  That said, my satnav does not feature real-time updates so maybe worth a go.

Secondly, planning to upgrade the standard head unit in the near future - probably with this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CLARION-DUZ388RMP-DOUBLE-DIN-CD-USB-MP3-WMA-TUNER-NEW_W0QQitemZ160292027828QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item160292027828&_trkparms=72%3A1346|39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A12|240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.

Would this still allow the TM system to work or require modification of the loom?

Many thanks for any assistance, as always  :)

To the left of your wheel? Is your car left hand drive? Mine was fitted next to the main light switch to the right of the steering wheel.

Just to return to my original question peeps - is the system actually any good and worth bringing back to life?  :)

I use it.  Sometimes its wrong, sometimes its right. Same as the premium rac/aa travel lines really.

All in all, I like it - its not perfect, but is another aid to avoiding jams. Sometimes it needs thought - ie, if it says a motorway junction has a 5 min delay, then in a mile, says that junc has a 15min delay, you know something has just happened, and to consider reroute.

I activated mine and find it fairly useful, but also a tad annoying! I find the info is usually quite accurate but only covers the next 10 miles or so. TBH I'm not sure I'll pay the £30 (IIRCC) to subscribe next year because I find that keeping the radio tuned to a BBC station and using the TP function is equally as effective.

That said... It has saved me quite a bit of time lately :-/ :-/

Like the radio, its extra info, only tends to be more up to date - number of times I drive down M1, with crappy 3 counties radio telling me its running nicely, TM saying avoid it, and me with my handbrake on going nowhere!
