Most lens cleaner discs will require you to select a track after playing an intro, so that the laser is aligned with the brush on the disc before cleaning commences. Although you can do this on a changer, it is not usually possible to operate any form of track selection on Nav units.

Lint free cotton buds are still the favourite non professional way to clean the lasers though, as do not knock three bells out of the laser like the discs can.

problem with cleaning discs is that if the laser doesnt read due to dirt/haze then the disc wont spin to clean!, cotton bud & cleaning alcohol or you can use glass cleaner is more thorough, but it does mean stripping the unit down :'(

Almost agree entirely . . . . BUT . . .

I wouldn`t use any chemicals, as they can often remove the protective coating on the laser, even the proprietory cleaning ones. Suggest to breathe on the lens to create a slight mist, and clean that way.

I'm gonna stick my neck out here, and say if you are cleaning a Carin cd unit, its because its spitting disks out?  Most likely cause is a very tired laser.  If thats the case, I wouldn't spend too much time on it...

never played with one of these units but do they have the little trimmer on the laser assy?, have had players in the past that ive tweaked & have worked fine, mind you it is trial & error as youve got to put it back together to try it unlike domestic c,d players ;)

No, it most certainly is NOT a trial and error adjustment. That is a very delicate adjustment that if not performed correctly with an osciliscope can burn a laser out in a matter of minutes.

DO NOT TOUCH THAT ONE !!

The Ferrari in my garage is a clear indication of how many people have got things like this very wrong and have had to get it repaired by people like me.

Keep twiddling that adjuster then, I`m saving for a new car
