Another Radio Display Problem
« on: 23 November 2008, 13:36:03 »

I have found a thread with a similar problem as mine No_Display
I have removed my CCR600 head unit from my Vectra, (everything displaying on that okay) and fitted it into my Omega. The 3 section black plu connector looked the same as the Vectra and the aerial was the same. I fitted all connectors to the cage from the Vectra then fitted the head unit.
The top section of the display shows the date when the head unit is switched off and no missing pixels. When I turned the head unit on it displayed SAFE as it should. While entering my code it displayed the digits correctly. After this the radio started working okay with sound to speakers but the display is blank. Turn head unit off and date displays fine.
Is it simply the CCR600 head unit is not compatible with the display on the Omega?

It doesn't seem to be detecting the boot mounted CD changer eaither but it may be I need to fit the Blaupunkt unit from the Vectra so not too concerned about that just yet.

Any ideas or is it put back the JVC and forget about the cassette and changer until I replace everything?

Sounds odd, the radio and screen must be working together as it showed 'safe' and then the numbers when you entered the code.

There is a way of programming the radio for a different number of digits on the display, I wonder if this is the problem? Cant remember off the top of my head how you change it though :-[.

The ccr600 may be programmed for wrong number of digits - ign on, radio off, press and hold 2 and 4 together, switch on radio and it should bleep.  This toggles it between the 3 display types.

Correct - radio and display are both functioning as SAFE and code entry were possible.

The problem is indeed with the radio being in the wrong display mode and easily altered by following the above

Just to add, both the Vectra and Omega have the 3 section MID display although the Vectra has a lot more computer functions.

I will give the display change a go when I finish work. I had seen someone mention this on another post but they weren't certain it was 2 & 4 so I thought I would wait for a response.

Thanks for the input everyone and I will let you know what happens tonight.

sorry for the slight hijack of the thread but an update for you all. Finally got the radio to display on the screen, both radio and cdc displayed safe and put the codes in. It was working for a bit (about half an hour) then it goes back to showing the date when the radio/cd is on, should it do this or am I looking at a loose connection somewhere?

thanks

The Vectra must be newer, and uses the later (more reliable) MID with 10 digit radio display.  Your Omega, pre 98, uses the less reliable 8 digit type.

Right guys, update as promised. Got in the car to leave work and tried the method you gave holding down buttons 2 & 4 but didn't do anything, no beep but after a few seconds radio came on without display. Tried a couple more times but it was the same.
When I got home I thought I would try some different combinations and it worked holding down 4 & 6. First time it didnt make a difference think it said 2 +10, (or other way round). Had one last go and it said 2 +8 and BINGO, I have a display back. Can now see it telling me it cant see the ccd changer but will look at that seperately.
Thanks a lot guys would never have thought to try that, had a couple of these head units/changer combinations, (in both cars) but never had to do anything like this before.

The Vectra is a 97 2.5 V6 CDX so is a year newer than the Omega. This model got quite a lot more than other pre-facelift Vecs though. Going off what got displayed when I sorted the head unit I would say you are spot on with the 10 digit bit TheBoy ;)

Good news, sorry I got the buttons wrong - I should look up stuff, rather than go from memory all the time...  :-[
