Bose vs Vx ICE
« on: 29 November 2008, 08:36:19 »

Hi,
Just seen the thread from the guy asking about the Bose system. My 98 CDX has the standard Head unit (Philips?) and a Blupunkt CD Changer.

As the quality of Bose is meant to be superior is a straight swap possible? The CD Changer has now started not to load/wont play tracks/Skipping to other CDs. >:(

If I'm thinking of a change is this a good place to start?

I've seen other CD loaders that take more than the current 6 in my Blaupunkt (dunno how many the Bose one holds) which would be good -  but will they take recorded CDs (that I've put together) or should I just go MP3 (or similar?)

Any thoughts appreciated!

BOSE quality is vastly superior with respect to the standard systems, but a little complex to retro fit - many here can assist though.

BUT . . .

The quality is vastly UNsuperior when comparing a system designed 15+ years ago using paper quality 2 Ohm speakers against a modern stereo with higher performance speakers.

Question is, do you want sound quality and gadgets (MP3 etc) or originality

 ;)

I`m sure that others will be along with their comments on this one, but I know that I would never fit BOSE, if the car had it, it would be ripped out, and as far as retro fitting it? Not a chance. Admittedly my opinion comes from my business of installing high quality car audio systems, and not from driving an Omega trying to hide the rattles the car makes.

Thanks Dave - I especially like the comment about hiding rattles!

To answer your question it is a desire to upgrade - so if I'm upgrading then I think I might as well do it properly and put some thing new in.

Sounds like you could be an appropriate person to talk to.

I've got lots of ideas about what I want to do...............

Be in touch

Lol !

I bet your vectra doesn`t rattle half as much as my car.   :'(

I`ve come to accept that the bagdge on the bonnet is quite apt. That Italian horse is only prancing about as it cannot stand the bloody noise in the cabin !! Rattles, squeaks, vibrations, you name it, I`ve got it. At least the Omega`s were designed to be a fairly quiet ride.

Gonna trade it in after Christmas - fed up with it.

What you need is a loud exhaust, solved all my problems with rattles on the vectra when I put a straight through system on it, couldn't hear them :)

LOL !!

You obviously don`t know my car then !!   ::)

I drive a 2003 Ferrari 456M GT  -  (aftermarket Stebro exhaust already gives the V12 a VERY loud note already), and bear in mind that I have won many Audio competitions for both sound quality and loudness of the stereo, (as thats what I do for a living )-

I CAN STILL HEAR THE BLOODY THING RATTLING   >:(  >:(  >:(  >:(

Last time a Ferrari passed me going the other way I couldn't even hear my exhaust for the sound of it, this was along High Lane as well so not very quick, he did floor it for a short burst though :)

Dunno how you can hear any car rattles, you sure it isn't your teeth? ;)

No rattles on either of my omegas. Better build quality than a Chavy rarri !
Had both set ups, bose is awesome at full on volume, never distorts when on "11" or "one louder" levels. However i find it a bit "empty" at quieter volume levels. For that i actually prefer the system you have. With that in mind, for me, certainly would not bother upgradeing to bose. Neither systems cope with writeable discs which can wareout your cd player prematurely they tell me.
Personally, i'de just change the cd changer and leave it at that. But thats just me... :-)

Ps. Face lift NCDC 2015 in mine is a 4 cd changer.

I always found the engines a little fickle to!

And tick over as rough as a badgers arse due to the mega cam profiles

No, must kinda disagree there, unlke my previous 348 and 355, I must confess that this engine is absolutely silky smooth with no roughness whatsoever - But thats probably due to it being a V12 - its a lot bigger than the others
