Alternator
« on: 18 January 2009, 14:04:32 »

I own a 2.6 V6 (2002) model, need to get a replacement alternator, are the alternators the same from all the V6 Omega or do they differ?? ie 2.5, 2.6, 3.0 and 3.2?? Which ones will work, doesnt seem to be a part number on mine but its a bosch 120 amp one if that helps.

If there are diferent types which one is the best to try and get hold of.

Thanks

depends how you want it sent, 1st class will be about 8 something, parcelfarce probably not much less.

If you take off the black cover at the back of the altenator you will see the regulator (black oval shape with 2 screws securing) thats probably the fault, on the other hand it could be the brushes so means a refurb kit needed.

Are the brushes not part of the regulator? Thought it was all in one? Could be getting mixed up with another altenator i've seen though!

Yes they are, and I am yet to see them close to worn out (even on a 200K mile alternator).

There are only two things that happen to these units

1) Noisey bearings - cheap and easy

2) Regulator failure.

The 2.6 and 3.2 do use a lightly different alternator to the 2.5 and 3.0 which I seem to recall is 140amp

It also has a very large regulator pack which is not to cheap!

You can fit the 2.5/3.0 alternator without issues though
