Speakers
« on: 18 January 2009, 14:47:40 »

Hi All

A vauge question, how many speakers should there be in a 2001 omega saloon.

So far I can only locate 4 all in the front doors.

There are speaker vents in the back door but no speakers behind is this correct for a CD spec. :)

Regards

front doors = 1 large and 1 tweeter (each door)
Rear doors = 1x sligtly smaller speaker (each door)
Rear shelf = 2x sub speakers (optional)

your car should deffo have speakers in the rear doors at least.

have a look under your rear shelf inside the boot and see if you can find any wiring for the shelf speakers, some have some dont.  :y

in my opinion you cant get much better than the std ones, Ive tried a few makes in the past and none of them seem any better.

I cant remember the size of the rear door speakers off hand, something like 6.5 inch I think. 7.5 for the fronts

Am thinking about changing mine too.

If you do change them, would be interested to know which ones you have chosen and your thoughts on the improvement (if any)  :y :y

Wouldn't go that far tbh!

Having said that, when Stu fitted a pioneer head unit of mine in his council spec, I was gob smacked! There're million times better than the standard speakers that were in my Vectra and Ford Escort put it that way! ;D

Standard paper cone speakers go mushy with condensation, are actually manufactured for less than 10p each and are made with the sole responsibility of distracting you from the rattles of the vehicle.

So how good do you really think they are going to sound compared to an aftermarket speaker ?

OK Dave... Just from an interest point here... What aftermarket speakers would you recommend for an Elite with Bose?

I need at least one door speaker and am tempted to go with a new set so just want a professional opinion :y :y :y

With the exception of the nasty budget range of JBL speakers, there are no other aftermarket speakers to the best of my knowledge that are 2 Ohm rated and compatable with the BOSE system.

Professional opinion?

Ditch the BOSE  !!

TBH I think the sound is acceptable for what I'm after, plus I've got the built in phone which is fine for what I need :y :y :y

Guess I'll just get one from a scrapper then :y :y :y

I have Infinity 605 components in the front door, the cross over goes in the arm rest (thanks Kevin) and they are 65mm in size.

FL use Corsa adaptors from Halfords ( I think I had to lop off alug)

Ok Guys

Another stupid  :-/ question.  There's alot of talk on here about 'bose' systems how do you know if it fitted with this system.

A stupid question, it's probably very simple to tell. But I don't know?

On the same subject, can I fit any speaker into the rear door or is it a certain size?

im in the process of upgrading my stereo from the underpowered bose system!

Fronts will take a standard 65cm speaker with an adaptor kit rears require much smaller speakers which is why i have decided to use the parcel shelf instead and put my woofers in the boot

ive gone for Component Alpine Speakers 6x9 rears and 65cm fronts with a Denon DCA 800 8ch Amp in the boot

i didnt use a template i smashed up the crappy paper speakers and superglued the speakers to the old paper frames
