Telephone enquiry
« on: 22 January 2009, 13:27:56 »

I can't seem to get the telephone going in my car.  It just keeps coming up saying 'no network'.  I've tried a couple of different sim cards, one Vodaphone and one Orange.

Is there something obvious I'm missing?  I've not owned a Miggy with this unit before, I think it's the CCRT 7007?  It's the pre-facelift model anyway...

Any tips?

Is it simply a case of sticking in the sim and away you go?  The unit doesn't need to be unlocked or anything does it?

I'll see if I can get an O2 sim though...

It should just work.

O2 are about the only ones who still use the old GSM900 setup.

I went round the shops trying to get an O2 sim card, did think it'd be too hard, but they all wanted a tenner.  OK so I got £10 worth of credit, but I don't even know if the phone works.

Anyway, the bloke in the Vodafone shop said I could get one free from their website so I've just done that.  And my brother's sending me a spare O2 one that he's got, just in case...    :)

as MDTM says, o2 are the ones that the older units work with; display onscreen as BT CELLNET. my old brick is so vintage i dont think it can be unlocked. unless one of you is about to tell me otherwise?

Tesco Mobile use O2 as their bearer so you can go on the Tesco website and order a couple of PAYG SIMs from them for free.

I've managed to use them on GSM900 carphones before with no problems.

IIRC, both Vodafone and O2 how have allocation at 1800 MHz so coverage with a 900-only phone might start to get patchy as they utilise both bands. They are both around on 900 MHz though.

Voda SIM worked fine in my ccrt700, and in my ncdr1500.  o2 should work fine as well :)

Orange and T-Mobile, no chance
