Pulling my hair out now
« on: 20 February 2009, 13:33:14 »

My plan was to fit my 2.0 CD with standard stereo equipment. I bought the loom, headunit. cd changer and got the philips amp along with the loom from the scrappy. I went to wire in the loom today but found that there s nothing to plug it into at the drivers kick panel. Does the other loom to connect it plug into the headunit or something?. I have a loom running from the boot to the kick panel and nowhere for it to go. it's doing my head in now  :-/

look up behind the fusebox, take the trim off above the pedals, and look up inside, mine was taped up to one of the metal brackets.

Cheers Chris, not that there's any hurry now as I might not need it lol.

Looked everywhere behind the fusebox and along the metal brackets and cant find the loom or plug anywhere. Am I totally screwed?  :-[ :-[

I had the same problem when i had the GLS, I think some GLS's and CD's have a basic harness, it was more trouble than it was worth in the end.

Car is 1997 2.0 CD Mark. Is there such as thing as a loom that attaches to the existing one from the headunit?. This is turning into an expensive nightmare  :D

To fit or not to fit?. Was going to fit the loom today to the back of the car. Problem is........can a loom from hedunit be got to hook it all up, or am I wasting my time fitting the loom to the boot?

shame your not in N.W scotland, I could have had a look, My car car that the loom was tied up was a 96 cdx, It had the single disc blaupunkt cd300 h/u but when I found the connector behind the fusebox, I ran the loom to the boot and the changer worked with the SC804 stereo I Had.

Your car being a 97 could be either CDC1 or 2 as both were fitted around that time.

what type of keyfobs does your car have? and does it have the stereo controls on the wheel? (trying to establish if its early 97 or late 97)

cheers  :y

As far as I'm aware it's the early 97 P reg. It's a CD and it doesn't have the steering wheel controls. The key fob is not the old infrared type with the sensor on the roof. Has air conditioning and retro fitted black leather seats which of course aint much use when it comes to a stereo issue but they're comfy  :D :D

well the 98 2.5TD CD I had for spares didnt have the connector or the changer loom at all, so Im guessing from 97 onwards vaux started leaving bits of loom out. My 97 2.5V6 GLS estate doesnt have the connector either.

I have only had the complete loom removed intact from 2 cars I have broke for spares, (absolute pain in the rectum to remove whole) but they were both elites and had all the sections of loom.

I didnt see anywhere on the loom that the connector in footwell could connect to behind the stereo.

so your options are to splice into your loom to get the factory stereo and changer to work, or fit an aftermarket changer and H/U

Not sounding very good then as I wouldn't know where to start with splicing the loom. I did actually think the CD model would have had the loom but you live and learn. I guess I'll have to do some rethinking and maybe have to sell the H/U amp, loom and cd changer I was hoping to fit.

Finally found the black plug tucked well behind the fusebox but alas it only has 2 wires going into it. So I'm going to try rewiring to get the cd changer and amp working.....if I can figure out the pins on the amp.

I have a pic of the amp pins but I don't know what the abbreviations are, it's double dutch to me. :o
