Dash lights flashing with left indicator
« on: 28 February 2009, 10:31:48 »

Posting this problem on behalf of Glen Kew who cam up to my house today with his car,

The car is a facelift model 2.5 Cd saloon

Glen had the speedo assembly changed recently due to the fuel guage and temp guage not working, He was advided by a local garage to change the whole unit. I noticed from looking at the newly fitted clocks that they are from a minifacelift model because the faces are black not grey.

When the left inticator is switched on the rear fog and front fog symbols flash in time with the indicator arrow, also the strange thing is the stereo backlights also flash!

The hazzard switch also caused this to happen, but the right indicator works as normal.

We have checked the exterior of the car and the fogs do not flash with the indicators.

AmI right in thinking this is because the wrong type of speedo assembly has been used?

Cheers guys  ;)

I'd say it's more likely to be a bad earth... Which may or may not be due to the clock type but certainly needs returning to the garage as the job hasn't been done correctly!

Are the rear lights functioning correctly? Nothing dimly flashing in the background within the cluster? Try with brakes on and off.

If they are, its usually a sign on most cars of the rear lens cluster earth having failed.

As your dash has been swapped though, It may be something else.

The garage only advised him to change th clocks, they did not fit them, and the problem only started once the clocks were changed.

I would have tried the original ones back in but Glen didnt have them with him and was short of time.

Going to try again at the weekend with his original clocks, and if they work ok with regards to the flashing lights then We can get another set off one of the guys on here.

Dave:

Nothing flashes in the rear clusters, the indicator flashes as normal with the brake pedal pressed/lights on etc. its only the lights on the dash that are affected.  :-/
