Has anybody replaced their double din unit with a built-in satnav unit? Any pics?

The Pioneer units are looking good and I think that they would suit the facelife dash quite well.

JayW used a Panasonic unit IIRC, looked quite good but I agree with TB regarding the screen location.

Cmon guys if there is voice navigation there is no need to stare at the screen every second.
Agree the location is a little akward but it will probably look cool

the sreen is to low down to work properly .you have to take your eyes off the road to look at the sreen .when she tells you ,in hundred yards or whatever turn right you always look at the sreen to make sure !well i do .no doubt they are a good system .its a pity the sreen can't be placed furter up  :-/

You could always use one of these screens if you want the monitor higher up

Used to have a similarly located unit in a Golf Mk4, not an issue. Voice instructions should be enough.

Don't want TomTom etc as they look tackey.

I thought of changing ccr2006 with an aftermarket double din satnav system, and what I saw on stores, forums ebay etc was the best solution would be either Kenwood or Alpine. Others dont seem to be that good. Seen a number of Pioneer dead and sold for spares. Chinese units I didn't even bothered looking into much although the price is quite smaller than brand names. Also saw a sony model which looks good but can't be certain

Ah, but often the spoken word isn't clear enough, esp on complex junctions, which means eyes significantly off the road just at the wrong time...  ...one of the reason I like the Vauxhall factory fit ones in facelifts, as its all on the computer display

I guess you could buy one of the double din units and have an external screen mounted in the normal display location, would mean you'd lose all the BC features though.

I am the opposite, i prefer it down low, as you know i have a bodged PDA holder right down low next to the ciggy tray, especially at night it like it tucked out of the way.

The screen is towards the gear stick area, and i find it quite natural to glance down. It helps the screen is angled towards me so that helps, i think a double DIN in the radio position is facing the wrong way, and not ideal.

Only the el-cheapo poor quality screens need to be angled so that you can see them. If you have a good quality screen from a reputable make, the viewing angle is such that they should not have to be physically adjusted from side to side.

Dave I wasn't refering to the viewing angle in that way, but on the ease of use if the unit is oriented more to the driver side (vertically and horizontaly)
