I have recently bought a full bose system to fit to my 3.0 elite estate.
It comes with head unit,cd auto changer,amplifier, sub woofer box, speakers & wiring loom. Its all marked up with the bose logo.

My concern is over how i wire it into my car.
it came from a 1998/1999 car & i want to put it into my 1997 car but the multi plug near the drivers footwell looks wrong.
I have part of the original car loom from the 1999 car which has the plug for the head unit on etc but i would like some advice before i start. Will this fit my car?
I have heard the system in the old car & was very impressed so i will try my hardest to get it working in my car.
Also i dont have the code for the head unit since the battery was taken off, anyone know the cheapest way to get this or to get it decoded?.

Sorry, but without some usefull information like a radio model number, I am unable to assist with the decoding question.

Basically, the bose loom intercepts the feed to speakers (at drivers kick panel), and reroutes via amp, and feeds back to speakers. The eception is the 2 shelf speakers which are fed direct from amp.

Thanks for that i will have a closer look at the plug. i have a good long peice of the original car wiring loom that the plug plugs into but it looks quite complicated.
it does have the iso plug that fits into the back of the head unit though so may be able to match the colours of each wire with my loom.

didn't realise there are shelf speakers in an estate!   

I imagine it's a bit more complicated as the amp goes on one side of the boot and the sub on the other? oh and where does the cd changer go?!

it's a lot easier bolting it all in a box under the saloon shelf!

Ive figured the back end of the car out. the sub fits in the passenger side rear panel. the amp & cd changer fit in the drivers side rear panel. the loom goes from the changer & amp towards the front of the car & then a few small wires run under the back seat to feed the sub box.
Its just the front end im worried about.
Me & wiring do not really get on but i will try my best. :-/

i have started to fit the sub & the amp & cd changer.
i have laid out the main loom that these three components plug into which takes me upto the drivers footwell plug. my plug has a different amount of terminals on it.
Anyone any ideas?
i have part of the old car loom that plugs onto the new bose loom ok but there is a load of wires with different plugs & a relay??
I can sort of read a haynes style wiring diagram but im not sure if the bose system is shown in a haynes manual.
i was hoping the loom would just simply plug into my car at the drivers kick panel.

I did a Bose transplant into a '97 MV6 saloon some years ago, and am doing one now into a '98 CD estate. The MV6 was easy as it just plugged in and worked (when the fuse was inserted). The CD is proving to be a pain as the connector isn't in the drivers kickwell. However, I'm not going to let that defeat me!

I suspect that as yours is a '97 without a Bose (as thats why you are fitting it), then you have the "early" model wiring that is shown in the Haynes manual, whereas Bose was only fitted to the prefacelift models which are the "later" models in Haynes.

Does the cable that is plugged into the original car run down towards the back with a single square connector for the CD changer? If so, there should also be 8 individual wires that link back on themselves at the kick panel end.

You mention a relay - can you be more specific please as that dosn't ring any bells at all.

Exactly what model radio is was in the Elite originally, an 804?

To make the Bose  work you will also have to plug a fuse into an empty space on the fuse box.

can you remember which fuse no. it is and what rating fuse needed? (i'm also attempting this in a car without the loom!)

Yes mine is an 1997 elite so is prob why mine does not have the connector in footwell.
I think my head unit originally was an 804, it was quite an old fashoined thing with two big buttons in middle for track up&down.
The relay is white & has its own little bit of loom ?

I am on hold with the install this week as the car needs more important work for its mot
Will get back on with it in next couple of weeks.

My installation has nearly ground to a halt, and has proven to be much more difficult than I thought.

I'm lucky that I have a large garage to work in and plenty of time on my hands.

Basically, I have modified the trafficmaster cable so that I dont have to modify the main car loom. I've also got a donor car which does have the loom present - so I've hacked a bit off and am joining together.

I suspect that this will take me even more time - so standby for progress.

BTW, fuse 6 wasn't fitted in my car, so I've run another cable direct to the battery - that was easier said than done as well!

Yeah im finding my project harder than i expected but it should be worth it in the end.
Maybe easier to sell the car & buy another a year newer lol :-/
